Throughout history, the power of art to radically address the political landscape has played a vital role in social change movements. In the new film QUEENDOM, director Agniia Galdanova shows us the work of Gena, a queer artist from a small town in Russia, a nation where anti-LGBTQ+ laws severely restrict the freedom of personal expression. When Gena stages radical performances in public, they become a new form of art and activism that place Gena’s life in danger.  QUEENDOM is an act of artistic and political defiance, refusal to be silenced in a society that demands it.

In Russian with English subtitles.

Q&A with director Agniia Galdanova and producer Igor Myakotin to follow Saturday’s screening.
